Tips How to Storage Your Breast Milk

Re-enter work after a maternity leave for mothers who are breastfeeding their babies are often cause confusion and questions. The following information might be useful:

1. Buy a new refrigerator?
How often refrigerator is opened, if the refrigerator is frequently opened during the day so they can make the temperature inside the refrigerator is too cold, may be considered to buy a special refrigerator for storing breast milk. However, if the refrigerator is opened infrequently and not many objects that are in it, then it could use the old refrigerator. Noteworthy is the level of cold temperatures, the ideal is 0 ° – 4 ° Celsius for the outside of the freezer, and about -15 ° Celsius for the one-door refrigerator freezer.

2. Freezer or refrigerator?
To consider is how long the storage needs of dairy milk. Freezer in one door refrigerator (temperature -15 ° Celsius) can store breast milk for two weeks. In two-door refrigerator, freezer (the temperature of -18 ° Celsius) can store breast milk up to a period of three months. If you need a longer period for storing breast milk, then the use of a single freezer could be considered.

3. The minimum number of dairy milk supply.
Actually there is no minimum amount that must be achieved to prepare the mother for breast milk reserve. Suggested, mothers express and store stock as much as possible, if possible, this process began about a month before starting to work again. The goal is that women increasingly accustomed to milking when the come to work later.

4. Breast milk containers.
For storage, use glass bottles, plastic bottles PP, or plastic for breastmilk

5. Pumping breast directly into the bottle?
Recommended for container milk when pumping is a wide-mouthed container (eg a small bowl), as if pumping by hand, and good pumping techniques, usually milk will pouring out of the breast. So it is quite difficult if a direct pumping to the bottle. Besides cleaning the containers with wide mouth will also be easier. So it’s best to shelter breast milk using a wide-mouthed container, and then transferred to the container to be used as a storage place of dairy milk in the refrigerator or freezer.

Maybe some of the mothers often ask about how to store breast milk. To answer the question about how to store breast milk that is correct, then through the writings of this time I wanted to share this tips with you.

  1. Be stored in a thermos of ice can last up to 24 hours.
  2. When will be given within 3 months, breast milk is stored at the top of the refrigerator (freezer), frozen at temperatures below -18 degrees Celsius. With this particular storage can be frozen for 6 months. This is usually done in cases when a mother will go in a certain time, so it needs to collect a number of previous breast milk.
  3. When will be given within 72 hours, the milk is stored in a refrigerator (below 5 degrees Celsius, not made in a frozen state).
  4. When will be given within 6 hours after collection can be stored at room temperature, no need to be stored in the refrigerator
Freeze the breastmilk would destroy some of the antibodies in the milk, and should wherever possible using fresh milk. Once stored, the time will be given to the child also needs special handling, namely:
  1. For milk stored in the refrigerator warmed enough by putting the bottle in a container of warm water for 15 minutes, as it shuffled slowly.
  2. Do not heat on the stove and microwave as it will damage the vitamin content in breast milk.
  3. For milk frozen, remove the bottle containing milk frozen breast milk. Half an hour before feeding time, soak in a container of warm water. Or move the frozen milk to the bottom of the freezer the night before. We will use the next day, the milk will melt, then warm. Thawed frozen breast milk that can hold 24 hours in the refrigerator. Remember, do not freeze milk that has been moved back into the refrigerator.
  4. Dispose of unused milk after being given to the baby, do not save back into the refrigerator or heated.
  5. Take the milk is stored based on milk milking time (the first milking should be given first). Record the time and date of milking at the milk storage container.
  6. Give breast milk by using a small spoon bite by bite.
Hopefully information on how to store breast milk above can be useful for you, especially for those of you mothers who are currently breastfeeding a baby of course.

Reverse PCOS Symptoms in 5 Steps

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) affects 5-10 percent of pre-menopausal women, making it the most common female endocrine disorder. PCOS wreaks havoc on hormones: excessive amounts of insulin stimulate the ovaries to produce large amounts of testosterone. The result can be irregular periods and infertility, along with symptoms such as male-pattern baldness, fatigue, excess body hair, and obesity. The long term health risks for women with PCOS include diabetes and cardiovascular disease among others.

Stanford University has clearly identified the existence and effects of insulin resistance, a metabolic disorder and the major underlying cause of PCOS. Treating insulin resistance will help you to manage or reverse PCOS symptoms. Most importantly, this can be done naturally, without the use of prescription drugs.

1. Nutraceuticals: Nature's Medicine

Metabolic change cannot be achieved with a single ingredient. But the right combination of disease specific herbs, vitamins and minerals can help restore your body's metabolism. Minerals such as chromium, magnesium, and zinc work to control insulin and glucose levels. Vitamin C and folic acid promote a healthy circulatory system. The herbs fenugreek and milk thistle also help to control insulin and glucose levels. Guar Gum can reduce bad cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Insulite Labs nutraceuticals are formulated to reverse insulin resistance and PCOS.

2. Nutrition: Swap Bad Carbs for Good CarbsAll women with PCOS can benefit from adopting healthy eating habits. By eating a diet low in carbohydrates and refined sugars you can help reverse the imbalances of glucose and insulin in your body. Avoid bad carbohydrates like sweets, white bread, pasta and rice. Replace these with good carbohydrates that stabilize blood sugar like brown rice, quinoa, and whole wheat bread.

3. Exercise: Part of Your Daily RoutineAlthough everyone should find time to exercise, it is especially important for women with PCOS to fit some form of exercise into their daily routine. Whether it is a 20-minute walk, playing outside with your kids, or going to a Pilates class, exercise has proven to boost metabolism and burn calories which helps to control insulin levels and, in turn, results in weight loss. Exercise can also help to stave off diabetes, a health risk for women in PCOS.

4. Food Addiction: Break the CycleConsuming bad or simple carbohydrates and sugars can create a vicious cycle of ups and downs. Eating sweets and chips may give you a temporary high by causing a surge in blood sugar and serotonin, but the crash is sure to follow, leaving you craving more. By weaning yourself from simple sugars and carbohydrates and replacing them with complex carbohydrates and lean protein throughout the day you can maintain stable glucose and insulin levels and break the cycle of food addiction.

5. Find a Support Network: You Are Not AloneYou are not alone in your struggle with PCOS. There are millions of women worldwide experiencing the same symptoms and emotions. These are the women who will lift you up when you are feeling down. Visit the blogs and online communities like www.pcos.insulitelabs.com/blog, and soulcysters.net. If you can't find a support group in your area then start one and promote it online, in local newspapers, via flyers and at schools, college and health clubs. www.pcosupport.org has a state-by-state list of medical professionals who have shown a commitment to PCOS located on the PCOSA web site.

Women Smokers at Risk of Breast Cancer

Smoking was not just a trigger diseases related to respiratory tract. Recent studies show women smokers at greater risk of breast cancer, especially if they are already a smoker since a young age.

Although the risk is likely to be small, but women smokers are at risk of 6 percent higher breast cancer compared with nonsmokers. Women who spend a pack of cigarettes every day over a period of 30 years the risk jumped to 28 percent.

'Smokers may not be not the main factor of breast cancer, but when we see a woman in the group of heavy smokers and had smoked since he was young, it becomes a serious matter,' said Karin Michels, Ph.D., cancer epidemiologist and Obgyn from Harvard Medical School conduct this research.

Previous studies on the effect of smoking on breast cancer produce a balanced outcome. Some studies concluded that smoking increases the risk, but some will not find a link.

Tobacco smoke contains thousands of materials or substances, including chemicals, gas, and droplets of tar-tetasan. However, smoking is known to reduce levels of estrogen, one of the triggers of breast cancer. 'That's why some studies found no link between smoking and breast cancer, "said Michels.

In his research, Michel and his team studied 110 000 women who had 30 years to be smokers. In general, there are 8772 respondents who had breast cancer during the study period.

Those who had become smokers, at least before the first child, the risk of breast cancer is higher. Gave birth to a baby known to protect women from breast cancer, suspected this because of the changes that occur in breast tissue.

'The risk of breast cancer is greater in periods of hormonal transition, for example premenapause and post-menopausal period when there was a variety of changes in hormone function,' said Joanne Mortimer, MD, director of the Women's Cancer Program. He was not involved in this research.

In fact, women who smoke have an increased risk of post menopasue smaller than nonsmokers to have breast cancer. This is because people who have menopause, and smokers have lower estrogen levels.

Healthy Lifestyle Prevent Cysts and Myomas

Slightly weaker sex in this country who understand the difference between a cyst and uterine disease (myom). Indeed, both these diseases are both a kind of tumor that attacks the female reproductive organs. At a certain level of benign cysts and myomas.

However, both have a pretty fundamental difference. The first is the location where the growth of cysts and myomas. The location is in the growth of ovarian cysts (ovarian). Thus, the disease is often referred to as ovarian cysts.

The myomas grow on the uterine muscle of women. 'In contrast to the cyst that grows outside the uterus. Here lies the difference, 'said Martin Walean, Permata Bunda Hospital obstetrician.

Growth of myomas, or uterine myomas medical terms, is influenced by several factors, including hormonal status. Hormones have an important role in uterine activity, particularly the hormone estrogen.

The hormone estrogen can stimulate tumor growth in this one. Therefore, the network has a number of uterine estrogen receptor was higher than muscle tissue content. So often grow faster in the reproductive age, especially during pregnancy.

What makes myomas is dangerous because it can grow more than one location in the uterus, with the weight and size vary. 'This causes disturbances in the womb, "said Mulyadi Tedjaprana, Director of Clinical Medizone.

A second difference is its form. If the ovarian cyst-shaped bag containing liquid, solid myomas.

According Boyke Dian Nugraha, Couples Clinic obstetrician of Tebet, Jakarta, to be able to differentiate cysts and myomas can be made through ultrasonography (USG) four dimensions. 'Because, quite difficult to distinguish between them by conventional examination,' he said.

Boyke added, while cysts and uterine size grows, it needs special handling, such as laparoscopy and laparotomy removal action. 'This action is only recommended to women, the size of the cyst or miomanya above 5 inches, "said Boyke.

Although it was not known to cause the appearance of cysts or uterine, Mulyadi Tedjapranata stated that both benign tumors that can be avoided with the implementation of a healthy lifestyle and quality.

To avoid both diseases, the advice Boyke, it helps women reduce the intake of foods that can trigger the production of estrogen hormones, such as tofu and tempeh, or soy beans. 'It could stimulate the emergence of myomas,' said Boyke.

Other healthy lifestyle, said Mulyadi, reduce consumption of fatty foods and often consume a diet rich in fiber. Also, avoid giving additional substances in food. The most important is regular exercise. 'Habits of cigarettes and alcohol certainly must be stopped. If possible, also avoid stress, 'firmly Mulyadi.

Although only 0.1% of the total cases of these benign tumors that develop into malignant cancers, according to Martin, it is not impossible in the future will more and more women who develop cysts or myomas. 'If not prevented early on, cysts can grow so deadly ovarian cancer,' said he.

Currently, according to Martin, ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death in cases of gynecological diseases in the United States. In the land of Uncle Sam's, ovarian cancer is a disease that causes the death of five women after lung cancer, colorectal, breast, and pancreas.

Notes only, in the U.S., before 1998, cases of ovarian cancer in women aged below 50 years reached 5.3 per 100,000 cases. This number continues to increase every year. In 1998 41.4 per 100,000 recorded merudi concerns affecting women over 50 years.

Female Teenagers Vulnerable Infected with HIV

Women and girls were more vulnerable to contracting HIV. The study shows, the chances of women and girls infected with HIV 2.5 times higher than boys and young men.

UN Agency to Fight AIDS (UNAIDS) report, 67 percent of new cases of HIV and AIDS in developing countries exist at young ages (15-24 years). Of these, 64 percent are women and girls.

The notion of society that HIV / AIDS is only experienced by women sex workers are untrue. That's because today women are not doing a lot of risky behaviors of HIV-infected permanent partner (husband).

'Vulnerability of women to HIV is caused more gender inequality that resulted in the inability of women to control the sexual behavior of husbands and lack of medical care of HIV / AIDS, "says Ida.

Lack of understanding of 'the concept of gender' in the family makes the bargaining position of women was very low. Inequality of gender relations, both socially and economically, is the main driver of the spread of the HIV epidemic. That is, if gender equality occurs, the women can make their own decisions about sexuality activity.

'Gender equality in family and society to eliminate the vulnerability of women to HIV / AIDS, "said Secretary of National AIDS Commission Dr Nafsiah Mboi, MPH who is one of the speaker in National Seminar on" Accelerating Achievement of Objective 6 MDG's to Realize Women & Children Free of HIV-AIDS '.

What is Melanoma?

Melanoma is a kind of skin cancer. It is not as common as other types of skin cancer, but it is the most serious.

Melanoma can affect your skin only, or it may spread to your organs and bones. Luckily, it can be cured if it’s found and treated early.

What causes melanoma?

You can get melanoma by spending too much time in the sun. This causes normal skin cells to become abnormal. These abnormal cells quickly grow out of control and attack the tissues around them.

Melanoma tends to run in families. Other things in your family background can increase your chances of getting the disease. For example, you may have abnormal, or atypical, moles. Atypical moles may fade into the skin and have a flat part that is level with the skin. They may be smooth or slightly scaly, or they may look rough and “pebbly.” These moles don't cause cancer by themselves. But having many of them is a sign that melanoma may run in your family.

What are the symptoms?

The main sign of melanoma is a change in a mole or other skin growth, such as a birthmark. Any change in the shape, size Click here to see an illustration., or color Click here to see an illustration. of a mole may be a sign of melanoma.

Melanoma may grow in a mole or birthmark that you already have. But melanomas usually grow in unmarked skin. They can be found anywhere on your body. Most of the time, they are on the upper back in men and women and on the legs of women.

Melanoma looks like a flat, brown or black mole that has uneven edges Click here to see an illustration.. Melanomas usually have an irregular or asymmetrical shape. This means that one half of the mole doesn't match the other half. Melanoma moles or marks can be 6 mm (0.25 in.) or larger.

Unlike a normal mole or mark, a melanoma can:

  • Change color.
  • Be lumpy or rounded.
  • Become crusty, ooze, or bleed.
 How is melanoma diagnosed?

Your doctor will check your skin to look for melanoma. If your doctor thinks you have melanoma, he or she will remove a sample of tissue from the area around the melanoma (biopsy). Another doctor, called a pathologist, will look at the tissue to check for cancer cells.

If your biopsy shows melanoma, you may need to have more tests to find out if it has spread to your lymph nodes.

How is it treated?

The most common treatment is surgery to remove the melanoma. That is all the treatment that you may need for early-stage melanomas that have not spread to other parts of your body.

Depending on where the melanoma is on your body, and how thick it is, the surgery to remove it may leave a scar. You might need another surgery to repair this scar.

After surgery, your doctor will want to see you every 3 to 6 months for the next 5 years. During these visits, your doctor will check to see if the cancer has returned and if you have any new melanomas.

If your melanoma is very deep or has spread to your lymph nodes, you may need medicine called interferon to fight the cancer cells.

Can you prevent melanoma?
The best way to prevent all kinds of skin cancer, including melanoma, is to protect yourself whenever you are out in the sun. It’s important to avoid exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

  • Try to stay out of the sun during the middle of the day (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
  • Wear protective clothes when you are outside, such as a hat that shades your face, a long-sleeved shirt, and long pants.
  • Get in the habit of using sunscreen every day. Your sunscreen should have an SPF of least 15. Look for a sunscreen that protects against both types of UV radiation in the sun's rays—UVA and UVB.
  • Use a higher SPF when you are at higher elevations.
  • Avoid sunbathing and tanning salons.

Check your skin every month for odd marks, moles, or sores that will not heal. Pay extra attention to areas that get a lot of sun, such as your hands, arms, and back. Ask your doctor to check your skin during regular physical exams or at least once a year. Even though the biggest cause of melanoma is spending too much time in the sun, it can be found on parts of your body that never see the sun.

Basal Thermometer : How To Use it?

A basal thermometer is a highly sensitive thermometer that can indicate the most minute changes in temperature. This allows women to check their very precise temperature and often they will use this ability in order to check the stage of their menstrual cycle and thereby know if they are ovulating or going through a fertile period. The majority of basal thermometers will come with a chart in order to allow you to see what certain temperatures 'mean' and how they relate (or not) to pregnancy.

Basal Thermometer vs. Regular Thermometer

A basal thermometer is different from a regular fever thermometer which measures temperatures in degrees. A basal thermometer measures temperatures by 10th’s of a degree whereas most fever thermometers measure in two-tenth degree increments.
A basal thermometer is more reliable and accurate than a simple glass thermometer since glass thermometers are only accurate to .2 degrees Fahrenheit. You really need it to be accurate to .1 degrees Fahrenheit.
Another advantage of the digital basal thermometer over a fever measuring body thermometer is speed. The basal body digital thermometer is more accurate than a fever based thermometer, and it only takes 30-60 seconds. In addition, a digital basal thermometer is harder to break and remembers the temperature for you if you don’t want to chart it immediately.

There are many tips for how to use your basal thermometer that can ensure that your final reading is more accurate. They are as follows…

1. Use the basal thermometer first thing in the morning

This way you will get the most accurate measure of your body temperature without confounding factors like exercise. It is best to use the thermometer after five hours of sleep, with three being the minimum. Keep your thermometer by the side of your bed to remind you to use it.

2. Use the thermometer at the same time daily

This will better allow you to measure changes in your body temperature, as your temperature changes at different times of day.

3. Use the thermometer orally, rectally or vaginally

This way you will get the temperature of your body internally. However be sure to keep to the same method once you have chosen one as this may affect your results.

Fight Free Radicals

Every day we hear more and more about free radicals and how they are the ultimate cause of innumerable illnesses and health conditions from premature aging to macular degeneration and even some forms of cancer. The problem isn’t in knowing that these microscopic enemies exist – we know they do! The problem is how to fight free radicals so that they are rendered harmless. There are a number of ways to counteract free radicals beginning with diet and perhaps utilizing supplements and topical solutions that have proven effective in clinical studies as well as in practical applications.

What Is a Free Radical Anyway?

The first step in waging all out warfare is to understand the enemy. Free radicals are atoms floating around the body that have lost an electron, and most often you are looking at an oxygen atom that has lost an electron through oxidation. While it isn’t necessary to understand the scientific process of oxidation, it is important to know that during this process an atom of oxygen loses an electron and becomes unstable. Nature is a wonderful thing, but at times a double edged sword. Now you have these oxygen atoms which are missing an electron (free radicals) floating through your body looking for another atom that has an outer shell that isn’t complete.

The free radical then attaches to those atoms or molecules where it doesn’t belong and when enough of them build up, you have a tumor in the making. Some free radicals don’t cause tumors, however. Sometimes they attack healthy cells causing damage which in turn causes conditions such as premature wrinkling when they attack skin cells and macular degeneration when they attach to cells in the eye. The bad news is that there isn’t a whole lot we can do to prevent free radicals but the good news is that there is a way to counteract them before they can do untold damage.

Nature’s Answer to Free Radicals – Antioxidants

Now if you remember from your chemistry days, an unstable atom, by its very nature, wants to become stable. It will seek another atom to attach to so that the outer layer of electrons is complete. In very simple terms, the antioxidant has a positive charge while free radicals have a negative charge. In other words, the free radical is missing an electron while the antioxidant has an extra in the outer layer. Antioxidants, when introduced to the body will seek out a place to ‘lose’ the extra electron and what better atom than an abundance of free radicals in the bloodstream?

At this point, the antioxidant will attach to the free radical and as a ‘bond’ so that it cannot attach to healthy cells, thereby preventing damage, illness and disease. Of course this is an extremely oversimplified explanation, but you get the point. Once that free radical has the outer electron layer filled there is nothing that it can attach to so you are home free. With that one at least! However, there are millions more where that culprit came from, so the object is to increase your daily intake of antioxidants to provide a continuous supply.

Natural Ways to Fight Free Radicals

Nature has an answer to the problem in foods that are rich in antioxidants. Two of the most powerful antioxidants are vitamins E and C. Some minerals such as selenium, manganese, copper and zinc are also potent antioxidants so the key is to find foods richest in those vitamins and minerals to add to your diet. However, beta carotene and catechins are antioxidants as well. Unfortunately, our diets are comprised of highly processed foods that have lost most of those nutrients so you would need to consider adding fresh, whole foods daily in order to increase your supply of antioxidants. Some foods would include:

• Vitamin C – oranges, blackcurrants, kiwi fruit, mangoes, broccoli, spinach, capsicum and strawberries.

• Vitamin E – vegetable oils (such as wheat germ oil), avocados, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

• Selenium – seafood, offal, lean meat and whole grains.

• Manganese – seafood, lean meat, milk and nuts.

• Copper – seafood, lean meat, milk and nuts.

• Zinc – seafood, lean meat, milk and nuts.

• Beta-carotene – pumpkin, mangoes, apricots, carrots, spinach and parsley.

• Catechins – red wine and tea.

Antioxidant Supplements and Topicals

Most people choose to add fresh, whole foods to their diets as a way of increasing free radical fighting antioxidants, but there are topical solutions and supplements that can be utilized as well. Many skin care products contain vitamin E while there are countless supplements on the market which contain antioxidant vitamins and minerals. Without espousing any one product or brand, you should look for green tea supplements as a good source of catechins if you don’t like to drink tea! Also, there are a number of Acai Berry products but be forewarned that Acai is delicate so juices would be your best bet as processing the berry inherently leads to loss of nutrients when manufacturing supplements.

Some people add zinc lozenges to their daily regimen because they have proven to be effective in helping to prevent the onset of colds and influenzas, or lessening the severity should you contract a virus as well as in providing antioxidant protection against free radicals. Then there are the Resveratrol supplements that have been quite trendy over the past several years that are not only touted as being the ultimate ‘anti-aging’ supplements but also extremely powerful in counteracting heart disease by clearing plaque from the arteries.

In any case, it is always safe (unless you have food borne allergies!) to add fresh foods to your diet. However, before taking any supplements for the first time you should contact your primary health physician to ascertain what is safe for you to take based on your medical history. Whether you alter your eating habits or opt for supplements, antioxidants are your best defense against free radicals.

The Fibromyalgia's Facts

Fibromyalgia is one of the most common diseases affecting the muscles, tendons, and joints in women. Many health care professionals still do not recognize the condition as a disorder, most likely, because x-rays, blood tests, and biopsies often show no prevalent evidence to support the patient’s complaints. However, in recent years, the use of thermographs, a device that tests and measures the heat produced by areas of the body, has helped diagnose the condition. Studies indicate that fibromyalgia patients have decreased blood flow and decreased skin temperatures in sites of tenderness. Symptoms include long-term muscle soreness, muscle stiffness, sleeplessness, fatigue, mood changes, anxiety and depression. Often times the condition is worsened by stress and weather changes. Unlike other rheumatic conditions that cause swelling and inflammation of the tissues in the body, fibromyalgia does not cause any type of joint deformity or does not damage any internal organs.

Many times, patients that suffer with fibromyalgia have other conditions or disorders that will occur. One of the most common disorders associated with fibromyalgia is TMJ, a disorder associated with the jaw. Many sufferers of fibromyalgia may be diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, as well. Some patients complain of migraine or tension headaches, irritable bowel and bladder syndromes. Some women may develop a loss in memory and concentration. Fibrocystic Breast Disease and Endometriosis is often present in women that have fibromyalgia, although there has been no studies conducted regarding the correlation of the two.

Causes of this condition is still unknown, many experts are researching the relationship between menopause and fibromyalgia. Most women are diagnosed with this condition between the ages of 40 to 55 which is when menopause usually occurs, and approximately 85%-90% of all reported Fibromyalgia conditions are women. Hormonal changes, such as the decreased amounts of estrogen in the female body, may contribute to symptoms like anxiety, depression, and sleeplessness in fibromyalgia patients. Research shows, however, that estrogen and progesterone replacement therapy is not that beneficial to fibromyalgia sufferers. There are mild benefits reported when using the estrogen patches rather than the estrogen pills. Some studies indicate that the low thyroid function and decreased levels of thyroid hormones, as well as estrogen and progesterone hormones, may contribute to muscular pain, fatigue, mood changes, and anxiety. At the present time the correlation between menopause and fibromyalgia is uncertain, due to the lack of research on the subject. Fortunately, more tests are being conducted to find out how declining estrogen levels affect the onset of fibromyalgia. On-going research is being conducted that may suggest abnormally low levels of the hormone Cortisol, which is the hormone produced by the adrenal gland may also be a linked cause.

Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this disorder or completely cure it, either… Therefore, most treatment’s center on conquering the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia. Treatments for women suffering from fibromyalgia vary according to symptoms. In some cases, physical therapy or light exercise may be prescribed. Research has shown that the use of ice immediately following any exercise may decrease muscle and joint pain. The use of tricyclic anti-depressants usually used in treating depression; has also been shown to be an effective medication for treating firbromyalgia. These medications usually relieve depression, anxiety, reduce fatigue, and restores effective sleep patterns. Some physicians may prescribe local injections of analgesics to the sore or stiff areas. The use of pain-relievers and muscle relaxers has both been beneficial in reducing pain symptoms and improving sleep. Often times, doctors will discuss pain and stress management to their patients; which can eliminate some symptoms of the disorder.

Diet plays an important role in the prevention of symptoms concerning fibromyalgia. Eating organic foods, such as fruits and vegetables; increasing the intake of low-fat, high fiber foods; those high in Omega-3 Fatty acids, found in fish may benefit sufferers. Some physicians suggest lowering sodium rich foods or eliminating additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG’s) and artificial sweeteners, like Aspartame may relieve many symptoms of fibromyalgia. And recent studies indicate the use of a vegan diet may help alleviate symptoms. Alternative treatments, specifically in the field of homeopathic remedies, suggest taking magnesium, B-12 Vitamins, and Vitamin C.

Other non-medical treatments involve massage therapy
, heat therapy and cold packs that may temporarily relieve symptoms. The use of Hydrotherapy or water therapy can increase circulation and decrease muscle aches. Currently, there are studies being conducted that may offer more treatments or one specific treatment for helping relieve fibromyalgia symptoms.

Women suffering with this disorder may find themselves withdrawing from society due to the pain and anxiety associated with fibromyalgia. Many times, women find themselves unable to work a physical or stressful job. The best advice is to seek treatment and maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes light exercise, good eating habits, and staying active in both, work and life.
