Indonesian 101.010 Satay Sticks Breaks World Records

Do you have a culinary hobby of satay ? If so , you should be proud, because at the last date 10-10-10 has occurred a new world record-breaking.

What is satay?  Satay (pronounced /ˈsæteɪ/ SA-tay) or sate is a dish of marinated, skewered and grilled meats, served with a sauce. Satay may consist of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork, fish, tofu, or other meats; the more authentic version uses skewers from the midrib of the coconut leaf, although bamboo skewers are often used. These are grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings. Satay may have originated in Java or Sumatra, Indonesia. Satay is available almost anywhere in Indonesia; it has become a national dish of Indonesia. (Wiki)

In a news from kompas.com, said there have been breaking new world record in the field of cooking satay. This record beat the previous record of 75.00 satay.

After counting  for quite a long time, a world record of roasting satay had been broken in Bali with  101,010 satay sticks weighing a total of 1.5 tons.

"We have receiced confirmation that a world record had been broken in Bali only a quarter of an hour ago," committee chief  Ariadi Abimanju said Monday night. Ariadi said that the delay in announcing the world record was caused by the need to make a confirmation.

However, he thanked God the world record was made by a team of Indoparts Bali 2010 at Garuda Wisnu Kencana in Ungasan, Jimbaran, Badung, Bali. The previous 2009 record was held by Brunei Darussalam with 75,000 satay sticks weighing more than 1.1 tons.

The new Indonesian record, he said, was for the Largest Serving of Grilled Satay category weighing 1.5 tons with 101.010 satay sticks. He also said that  the counting of the satay sticks was carried out until late on Sunday, but it was slightly disrupted by a heavy down pour.

Besides counting the satay sticks very carefully, the appraisers of Guinness Book of World Records also counted the number of tables where the satay had been roasted by approximately 1,500 people.  It is worth noting that the record breaking was prepared in an Indoparts Adventure 2010 program, while the previous record was made last year by Brunei Darussalam with 75,000 satay sticks using 1,184 kilograms meat.

All the Indoparts personnel from various parts of Indonesia, were involved in the activity designed as a form of appreciation and friendship between Indopart and all the Indoparts dealers and distributors in Indonesia.

Besides breaking the world record, Ariadi said, Indoparts has also been engaged in social activities by donating 375 tables (each with two chairs) to several schools. In addition, 375 sets of satay roasters will be donated to satay sellers in Denpasar and its surroundings.
